Pharmaceutical cocrystallization and formulation of drugs

Pharmaceutical co-crystallization is an emerging area where the knowledge of crystal engineering is applied to design new formulations of an existing drug molecule into a new material to achieve higher solubility, better bio-availability and improved thermal stability. The crystallization of a drug with an acid or base based on the nature of the drug leads to a new supramolecular entity, which crystallizes to a new structure thereby resulting to improved physico-chemical and biological properties. This work find importance in pharma industry where, the genesis of new materials is always welcome.
