Walk in Interview for position of project assistant on a DST

funded project at IISER Mohali

Project Title: Search for spin-liquid and other novel ground states arising from an interplay between electronic correlations, spin-orbit coupling, and geometric magnetic frustration.

Durations: The position is available immediately and the candidate will be expected to join as soon as possible. Initial appointment will be for 6 months, extendable up to one year depending on the performance of the candidate.

Possibility of converting to a PhD position will exist for candidates clearing PhD entry requirements at IISER while working on the project.

No. of Positions: 2

Emoluments: As per DST rules.

Essential Qualifications: M.Sc. in Physics/Applied Physics. The candidate should have a sound knowledge of physics in general.

The candidates should have experience in synthesizing inorganic materials and single crystals of oxides and intermetallic compounds. In addition, experience with physical property measurements like magnetic, transport, and heat capacity measurements is desirable.

The project involves synthesis of oxide and intermetallic alloy materials which have the potential to show novel physical properties like superconductivity and magnetism. Their characterization using powder and single crystal X-ray diffraction, SEM, and various physical property measurements will then be undertaken.  The physical properties will be analyzed to understand for example, the structure property relationships in these materials.

The hired persons will also participate in maintaining lab equipment and any other duties the institute gives them.

Only hard working and extremely motivated candidates who are serious about pursuing a career in research will be retained.

Time and Date of interview: 10 AM, 6th Nov. 2015.
